Downsize In Design

Sep 1st, 2009 by Sherri

Chairs have so many forms, from decorative to pragmatic. The best chairs have a little bit of both; form meets function.

But what do you get when a bunch of serious designers are given the challenge of turning a champagne cork into a classic or contemporary MINI chair? That’s right: the people who design the real stuff got busy making some crazy, dollhouse-sized pieces, coming up with some pretty amazing stuff in the process. Think of it as Project Runway meets Design Star—for the mini-action figure set.

The event was sponsored by Living Edge, an Australia-based furniture design studio as part of a trade event, Saturday In Design that takes place on alternative years in Sydney and Melbourne.

Judges were looking for wit, originality and craftsmanship, with the prize being an Eames Lounge and Ottoman. The lucky winner was Jon Voss.
